Mary, I agree when you state that students need to be introduced and taught skills that will allow them to succeed in the horizontal world we live in. As future educators, we need to acquire the tools necessary to achieve that goal in the classroom and become a support system for our future students. As you also mentioned, the learning process starts in the home and parents play a very vital role in helping their children succeed. Although a very grim reality is, that many of our future students will not come from a happy and learning home environment. It is then, where our challenge as future educators begins. How do we help that child yearning for learning with no support at home?
